Slow Food USA is looking for a few good delegates to represent us at this year’s Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto 2014. Every two years Slow Food International gathers leaders from more than 160 countries in Turin, Italy to celebrate good, clean and fair food.

If you’ve been following Slow Food International lately, you may have noticed a theme in their events and announcements: Africa. In the last week, Slow Food has made their global priorities clear by relaunching the A Thousand Gardens in Africa project, announcing the appointment of new Vice President Edie Mukiibi from Uganda, and hosting 450 leaders at the Slow Food for Africa conference in Milan.

Wheat seems to be everywhere, but very little heritage wheat or other locally-produced grains have made it into re-localized food systems. Compared to the astounding successes in the recovery of heirloom vegetables and fruits as well as heritage livestock and poultry, the production and acceptance of heritage grains have lagged far behind.
