Recently, organic agriculture has been under attack, of sorts, by folks who claim its benefits are a bit overblown. In my humble opinion, writers such as Slate’s Melinda Wenner Moyer, make a mistake by taking a very siloed look at organics and judging it based on findings in one narrow area. They miss the entire point of the organic system, which takes an ecological or holistic approach to agriculture.

Slow Food USA is looking for a few good delegates to represent us at this year’s Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto 2014. Every two years Slow Food International gathers leaders from more than 160 countries in Turin, Italy to celebrate good, clean and fair food.

If you’ve been following Slow Food International lately, you may have noticed a theme in their events and announcements: Africa. In the last week, Slow Food has made their global priorities clear by relaunching the A Thousand Gardens in Africa project, announcing the appointment of new Vice President Edie Mukiibi from Uganda, and hosting 450 leaders at the Slow Food for Africa conference in Milan.

But Kirikou looks around, tries to understand, and in the end manages to solve the problems himself. Kirikou is a character in an animated film, but his adventures are not actually so far from reality.
