Food, Inc. did so well in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, that it’s headed to 45 more theatres around the country, everywhere from Washington DC to Portland OR to Ft Lauderdale, FL.
It performed better at the box office this past weekend than all the other independent films in release (based on its per screen average). This is an amazing achievement for a documentary, and a good sign that the public is hungry for the real story of where their food comes from.
Head to the theatres this weekend! Tell your friends and neighbors (and then, you know, invite them over for a home cooked meal afterwards). Click here to see the expanded list of where the movie will be playing starting June 19th.

The most important thing that food advocates can do to use this movie to build a movement is to bring along those “blissfully ignorant” eaters to see this film. If each of us brought along a friend, relative or neighbor who doesn’t care about what they eat, we’ll be steps closer to the tipping point that will be necessary to make some bold and meaningful changes to our food system.

My name is Edward Sylvia and I am the Chef/Owner of Cer t? Cafe and Catering in Midtown Manhattan. I am also opening NYC’s first ‘green’ pizzeria this fall. It was very important that I take myself and some staff to see Food Inc. It did not dissapoint- please read my reaction on my blog,

Wow!!!—-from a San Francisco convivium Slow Food member. I came out of the theatre with a rush of adrenaline in my body. I look at systems so often, both in my personal life and in my work as a coach and counselor. What a system of deception, stripping of human rights, and profitmaking and genocide! Discussing Food Inc., my thoughts raced from the plethora of insight: National health care as it’s currently structured will bring more of the same, unless it becomes 100% committed to prevention. In turn, prevention reduces treatment costs dramatically. Treat the system, not the symptom. This good food box wears a different giftwrap; yet contains the same explosive content issues as our Nation’s banks, Wall Street, real estate….Whew!
This timely film, Food Inc., gives this toxic-business- toward-a-toxic-nation the neon lights. So glad to see the truth. Much appreciation for the immense creativity. As an artist, I laughed when I saw the opening credits! Both my left-brain and right-brain had a full, sumptuous meal—-though I didn’t stop at 75% full! Grazie to all for this masterpiece!
Thanks to
to It’s waaaaay costly!!! At the root, is the complete revamping of a National Health Care System, which is totally prevention oriented, from the First Bite!
