Message: White House Garden and a Letter to Obama Two ways to take action—act soon! Have you heard of Eat the View? Kitchen Gardeners International has been waging a web campaign to get Barack and Michelle to turn a portion of the White House grounds into an organic, edible garden. In fact, they have turned it into an even larger initiative called Victory Gardens 2.0 (asking the Obamas to lead the nation by example), and it’s in the running on the Ideas for Change in America contest on Change.org. You have just a few days left to go there and vote for it! The top 10 ideas will be presented to the Obama administration just before inauguration day and form the basis of a nationwide advocacy campaign to turn each idea into actual policy. [update: while Victory Gardens 2.0 still needs your votes to be in the running, Eat the View has WON the contest on OnDayOne.org!. A little confusing that there are two contests going on, but…] Support the Sustainable Dozen! If you didnt have a chance to sign the Food Democracy Now letter before Obama named Vilsack as his Secretary of Agriculture, its not too late to sign up and support sustainable choicesthis time for undersecretaries. The list has grown to twelve suggestions and all of those signatures are still on there, with thousands more being added all the time. It’s well over 65,000 signatures at this point. Click here to go to the petition and add your name to the list.
