For those of us here in Mill Valley, it was a spectacular day and a wonderfully successful event. Information was communicated, petitions were signed, new friendships were forged, delicious food was consumed and, based on the feedback I received, fun was had by all!
We had a solid turnout of 130-150 people. Carole Mills of Senator Mark Leno’s office, Wendy Johnson of Green Gulch and Helge Hellberg of Marin Organic were our wonderful speakers. Due to a last minute cancellation by Rep. Lynn Woolsey, we were able to invite others up to microphone to speak about their local efforts to put healthy food back on the family table. People like Greg Everage of Family Eats and Julie Hanft of the Marin Open Garden Project. Justin Catalana of the future Mill Valley Beerworks talked about his and his brother’s truly local small business enterprise (and did you know how nutritious beer is?!) and several others shared their stories. The kids had a blast too. They “churned” fresh butter in a jar, gardened with Wendy Johnson, and blended smoothies on a bicycle with Operation C.H.E.F.
We are very grateful for the wonderful donations we received from Green Jeans Nursery, Sloat Garden Center, Mill Valley
Market and Whole Foods and for all the time put in by our dedicated volunteers without whom this event could never have happened.
