Organizer: Deanne Thompson
We organized a “Seniors for Kids” potluck/picnic at Burbank Heights & Orchards, senior apartments, in Sebastopol, CA. Thirty folks showed up, including Susan Campbell from Slow Food Russian River. We are continuing to fill up petitions and circulate forms to grow the numbers and encourage donations.
Susan explained the history of the Slow Food movement, begun in Italy when McDonalds wanted to put a business at the foot of the Spanish Steps in Rome. It is now an international organization, promoting healthy (no pesticides, herbicides, GMOs, etc.), seasonal, locally grown food, using the principles of environmental sustainability and social justice for the farmers and farmworkers.
