The Einstein Academy Eat-In went great! As it turned out we nearly ran out of food even though donations were generous. The event was a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with both of the school principals and many of the parents…. Candice Woo and Donna McLoughlin of Slow Food San Diego helped with food donations and contacts and Janella Davidson of the Einstein Academy Charter School Parent organization organized cooks (School Dads) and restaurants who also made donations.
Slow Food Urban San Diego was able to help receive donations of 100 pounds of chicken from Hamilton Meat and Provisions and 100 pounds of cole slaw and fixins’, as well as 600 ears of corn from Specialty Produce - both are restaurant suppliers. This annual BBQ celebrates the return of the new school year and welcomed over 600 parents, students, school teachers and administrators. Slow Food Urban San Diego had a information table and spoke with many guests and students about connecting the school with local farmers and local food purveyors, the Time for Lunch campaign, The Child Nutrition Act and Edible Schoolyards. The event had music, plant sales, videos and information booths. Our booth was designed by students at Einstein.
All in all, a very successful Eat-In!
