Slow Food USA is excited to announce a contest with our friends at Real Food Films for 2016.  They are thrilled to be among the first to see emerging voices and identify the next generation of maverick media makers. If you are thinking about submitting a food-related short film you may ask (beyond the cash prizes), what’s in it for me?

We particularly love the following quote from Daniel Klein, a past contest finalist who joined the fantastic team of judges this year:

“The Contest gets to the heart of why I make films, which is to provide new perspectives on the way we eat and grow. Not only is it a great avenue to share these films, but it is also building a network of likeminded filmmakers.”

As Daniel reminds us, this isn’t just about glory – it’s also about creating deeper connections between the food and film industries.

More details about the contest can be found at www.realfoodfilms.org. Submissions are due by March 1st, 2016, and the top ten finalist films will be announced April 1st. Awards include a $5,000 Grand Prize, just announced $5,000 Lens on Hunger Prize, $2,000 for Runner-Up and special awards for Best Cinematography, Underreported Issue, Food Producer Profile, Innovative Initiative and Animation. Media partners include film festivals and online video platform, Vimeo, bringing wide distribution opportunities for filmsand valuable networks for filmmakers.
